Your team is buried in work AI could do in minutes

Still rebuilding the same charts every year?

Find out where AI can actually save your newsroom time — free. We survey your whole staff, department by department, then spend an hour with your leadership naming your top 3–5 pain points and a pathway for each.

Grab a time. The survey goes to your team right after.

The annual chart rebuild

40–60 hrs

Importing, formatting, reformatting the same data. Every single year.

After we automated it

4.5 hrs

Plain-English prompts. Your brand colors. Reproducible every year.

BizWest Media — real result, not a projection.

Sound familiar?

You already know you need AI. That's not the problem.

  • The problem is knowing where to start — and not having a spare week to figure it out on top of putting out the paper.
  • So someone on your team played with ChatGPT. Maybe wrote a headline with it once. And then the work piled back up exactly like before.

You're not behind because you're not smart enough. You're behind because nobody has looked at how your organization actually runs — every department, not just the newsroom — and told you which three things to automate first.

The cost of waiting

Here's what "figuring it out later" is costing you.

40–60 hrs

One publisher spent this every year rebuilding the same print charts — importing and reformatting identical data. The same job now runs in 4.5 hours.

2–3 hrs/day

Another team loses this much daily just sorting and triaging email.

4 depts.

Editorial, ad sales, operations, and books each have their own version of this — payroll spent on work a machine could do while your team sleeps. Nobody has ever added it up.

It shouldn't be this way. The people doing the most important work in their community shouldn't be the ones with the least time to do it.

The turn

Now picture next week.

  • Your editor describes a chart in plain English — and it's built, in your brand's colors, in ninety seconds.

  • Your inbox sorts itself before you sit down.

  • Your ad team's reports build themselves.

  • Your staff stops asking "can AI do this?" and starts asking "what should we automate next?"

None of that is a someday. Every one of those is something we've already built for a publisher — and the kind of opportunity the survey is designed to find in your shop.

Meet your guide

There are plenty of AI consultants. Almost none of them know publishing.

There are a thousand WordPress developers. A thousand "fractional CTOs." A thousand AI shops that discovered automation last quarter.

We're different in the one way that matters: we've spent 20 years inside publishing. We're the fractional CTO behind a roster of publications right now. We know your gotchas — the ones the generic shops only find out about the hard way, on your dime.

We're not an AI company that wandered into your industry. We're publishing people who got very good at AI.

"We've sat in your newsroom. We just happen to be very good at AI, too."

How it works

The free AI analysis

Three steps, about a week end to end, and nothing to pay at any point in it.

STEP 01

A short survey to your whole team

Department-specific questions for editorial, sales, operations, and leadership. A few minutes each, and nobody answers questions about a job they don't do.

STEP 02

A one-hour results call

We analyze the results across your whole organization and find the work costing you the most hours for the least reason.

STEP 03

Your top 3–5 pain points — free

Named, in your own staff's words, with a pathway for each. Do them yourself or have us do them.

There's no catch, and there's no bill. The survey is free, the results meeting is free, and the recommendations are yours to keep.

The right technology, not just AI

Sometimes the answer is fifteen lines of code.

A regional news publisher's paywall depended on a human copying payment data between systems by hand, every day. Failed payments never reconciled. Readers ended up with years of free access.

We took the human out of the middle. Checkout now flags the subscription automatically, and access re-validates against their circulation system in the background daily. Enormous time saved, the error rate collapsed, and the revenue leak closed.

And not a line of it needed AI.

  • Automation isn't always AI. Knowing which tool the problem actually calls for is the expertise.
  • We'll tell you plainly where AI doesn't belong in your workflow.
  • We're not reselling software, and we don't get paid if you buy any.

BizWest Media

BizWest Media rebuilt its annual economic-profile charts by hand every year — 40 to 60 hours of importing, formatting, and reformatting the same data, every year, forever.

What we built

A brand-styled chart system driven by plain-English prompts. The rebuild now takes 4.5 hours — and it's reproducible next year, and the year after that.

Montclair Local

Montclair Local processed every donation by hand — retyping checkout records into the reporting spreadsheet, writing thank-yous to major donors one at a time, and rebuilding charts before every board meeting.

What we built

Donations now flow from checkout straight into their reporting spreadsheet. Thank-you emails to major donors send themselves. Board-meeting charts generate at the press of one button.

1–2 hrs/week of manual work eliminated, every week, permanently.

And the part we didn't build: the team now brings us its own automation ideas.

Who it's for

Whether you want to run with it — or have it run for you.

Teams who want to run with it

Some publishers take the recommendations and build them in-house. Good. That's what they're for — they're yours the moment we hand them over.

Teams who want it built for them

Others don't have the hours to spare — that's the whole reason they're here. We implement instead. Either way, it starts in the same place: the free analysis.

If you're a publisher with a team that's curious, a little overwhelmed, and ready to stop guessing — this is built for you. You don't need a tech person. You don't need to "be ready." That's the whole point.

You'll leave the results call knowing what to do. If you want help acting on it, we'll show you how — and there's no obligation to take us up on it. Nothing gets quoted before we've seen your results.

Questions

The questions every publisher asks us.

Is it really free? What's the catch?
It's really free, and there isn't one. You get the findings and the recommendations whether or not you ever hire us — they're yours to keep. We'd rather show you what we'd do than tell you about it, and some publishers take that and run. That's fine.
How long does the survey take?
A few minutes per person. The questions are specific to each department, so nobody spends time answering things that have nothing to do with their job.
Is my team technical enough for this?
If they can describe their own week, they're ready. The survey asks about the work — what's repetitive, what's slow, what everybody dreads — not about AI.
Who needs to be on the results call?
You, and whoever else makes the calls — usually the publisher plus a department head or two. It's one hour, and it's a leadership conversation. Your staff's only involvement is the survey; we don't need anyone pulled off deadline to sit in a room with us.
What if we want you to implement the recommendations?
Then we'll scope it to what your survey actually found, rather than to a package we made up in advance — and we'll walk through that on the results call, once there's something real to talk about. No long-term contract, cancel anytime with 60 days' notice.
What about AI making things up?
Hallucination is real, which is why our recommendations put AI on work that can be checked — data you already own, formats you already use — and why anything we build gets a verification step. We'll tell you plainly where AI doesn't belong in your workflow, too.
Which tools do you use?
Whatever fits your stack — Claude, ChatGPT, your existing CMS, the spreadsheets your team already lives in. We're not reselling software, and we don't get paid if you buy any.
